3D animations for Chemistry teaching stimulate the capacity for abstraction and facilitate three-dimensional visualization. This was the theme of the PhD thesis developed by Manuel Moreira Baptista and supervised by Prof. Dr. Pedro Faria dos Santos Filho in the Institute of Chemistry of the State University of Campinas.
Because it is a subject that is currently at the frontier of research in education, i.e., it contains links, sound and video, it was necessary to create a hypertext fot the thesis. That hypertext, which will soon be hosted in the library of the the Institute of Chemistry at the address www.biq.iqm.unicamp.br/arquivos/770596/tese.htm, can also be accessed
in this link.
Part of the work was not included in the text of the thesis because it contained information that was not necessary to give support to the argumentation, or because the information contained mathematical details that were not necessary to understand the text. Although this information was not included in the text, it was fundamental for the development of several animations and, for this reason, was documented.
The body-centered cubic packing
and the calculation of the Cartesian coordinates (x,y,z) of the
unit cell are two examples of documented information.
